Giving is letting go of what one loves most. It involves one's free will.

[John 3:16]

If one gives what he does not treasure then it is of little value, which he may be disposing off.Giving is one sure way to multiply what God has given. When God created man in His own image,He wished to multiply what He had. This is His nature. He loved mankind by letting go of His own nature.Love and giving work together. You can not give what you do not love and to one you do not love. God loved His nature and desired to multiply it so he blessed them with the same . Blessing them (man and woman) to go produce and fill the whole world (Gen: 2:27-28)

Why give?
After creating everything and it pleased Him, God put Adam and Eve in a well prepared garden which had every kind of good things. He offered this out of  love for mankind. Even after the fall of man, God’s love for man did not fall, the covenant of multiplication made to Adam and Eve was successful: Adam knew his wife and they beggot children: Abel and Cain. These children were a gift and blessing from God. In return, man had the obligation to bless God with the fruits of his hand this is why Abel and Cain had to offer to God what they had out of their harvest (Gen: 4:1-4)
Abraham and his wife Sara stayed for years without a child but kept faithful to their God. God also loved them so much that one day He fulfilled His promise of giving Abraham a nation. He gave them Isaac at a very late stage of their life. The same God asked Abraham to offer Isaac an only son and because of love for his God, Abraham agreed (Gen:22)
When man sinned, the world was perishing, for this reason God wanted to save the world He loved. He sent His son,Christ Jesus as a love sacrifice to die on the cross than the people to perish in sin (Jn:3:16) This love for mankind brought Christ to the cross and He also allowed to offer His own life even to the grave for mankind (Luke:23:51-55)
Before He went to the cross, Jesus taught His disciples to give in order to be blessed, He taught them to do good for others and also give others what one desires to be given to them (LK:6:31-38)When we give, we should give with love. If you love the one you are giving, you will do it with respect. It should be in secret, and not a big show off: (Matt: 6: 1-4) When giving, one should consider the needy because even them God created for those who give to be blessed (Matt:12:32-34)We give for the building of the Kingdom of Heaven. If you find a place where God seats and answers people’s prayers, do not leave that place without offering. Give to support that work and you will have kept yourself riches in heaven. (Matt:6:19-21)
Do not mind how much you offer, little or much, the lord looks at the heart and not what is in the hands of the giver. Even Jesus Himself commended the widow who gave the last coins she had. He said, she was a better giver compared to the rest of them who gave only part of what they possessed (LK:21:1-9)

In addition to healing and delivering people from sickness, disease and demon oppression, Jesus offered in order for the world to witness the power and the glory of His father in heaven. After preaching, one day Christ Jesus found out that the people were hungry. He had to perform a miracle of multiplication in order to get them enough to eat. But before that,Christ first requested the disciples to find something to offer to the hungry.Good enough, there was a little boy who offered two fish and five loaves of bread, that were blessed to multiply. This means that when we give we give to multiply, it was only two fish and five loaves of bread that fed more than 5,000 people. (Matt:9:35-44)

Giving means fellowship with one another which also is love for one another. The apostles used to break bread and eat together just as Christ Jesus did on the last supper (Mk:14:22-26) The apostles continued with the same way of life selling their possession and using the money together in harmony- (Acts:4:32-37).The desire to give is a gift. It is only the wise who will be able to give at the right time. The three wise men who studied stars came following a star from the East until it led them to the place where Christ was born. They carried gifts which they presented to Jesus Christ (Matt:2:9-11)

Since time immemorial. Whoever went to see a man of God for a solution he went with a special gift, an offering to the holy man who prayed for their deliverance that God may answer their prayers. When Saul was looking for the lost asses that belonged to his father, together with the servant they carried a special offering to Samuel the man of God who prayed for them  Samuel told them that the asses had been found,Saul got a blessing and anointed the first King of Israel (Sam:9:1-20; Sam:10:1-2)
